Arrival in Calama and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama. Valle de la Luna, also known as Moon Valley, is a desert landscape and a geomorphological wonder. Declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982, it is part of the Flamenco National Reserve. This area offers stunning landscapes that resemble a fragment of the lunar landscape, with geological formations like Los Tres Vigilantes (now Las Tres Marías) and the majestic Major Dune. Don't miss viewpoints like Quebrada Honda, home to the famous Coyote Stone, especially stunning at dawn and dusk.
Entrance Ticket: Valle de La Luna CLP 11.000 adults, Child 12 a 17 years and CLP 5.400.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch / Duration: 12 hours / Pickup in accommodation at 06:00 to 06:30 am / Dropoff in Center of San Pedro.
Explore the village of Toconao, known as the "Lost Corner," for its charming simplicity, calm atmosphere, special climate, beautiful architecture, and crafts. Visit Laguna Chaxa, a marginal area of the Salar de Atacama in the Sector Soncor of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
Next, head southeast to the Andes Mountain Range to camp in the highland village of Socaire. Explore the village's church and learn about its agriculture. Then, ascend to approximately 4,200 meters above sea level to visit Lagunas Miscanti and Meñiques, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.
These lagoons are characterized by volcanoes and mountainous landscapes. Spot wildlife such as the Horned Tagua, Small Parinas, Caití, Baird Sandpiper, Puna Plover, Juarjual Duck, and Guallata. The flora mainly consists of Llareta and Paja Brava, with both lagoons fed by underground water from melting glaciers.
Continue along the foothills of the Southern Andes to the Salar de Talar, known as Piedras Rojas. Here, the rocks undergo natural oxidation and weathering, creating stunning colors against the backdrop of the Andes.
Entrance Tickets: Altiplanic Lagoons and Piedras Rojas: CLP 15.000 Chileans and CLP 23.000 foreigners.
Meals: Breakfast / Duration: 7 hours / Pickup in accommodation at 04:30 to 05:00 am / Dropoff in Center of San Pedro.
Visit the Tatio Geysers, one of the highest geyser fields globally and the largest group in the southern hemisphere. Located in the Andes cordillera northeast of San Pedro de Atacama, these geysers are the third largest globally, after Yellowstone (USA) and Dolina Giezerow (Russia). Witness the maximum expression of these geysers at dawn, with temperatures reaching 85°C.
On the return journey, observe wildlife such as vicuñas, llamas, ñandúes, and vizcachas, among others. Admire the flora, including giant cacti, llaretas, and coirón. Visit the small ancestral village of Machuca, where residents are mainly engaged in pastoralism and cheese production. Nearby, find the Salty Lagoon, home to families of flamingos, ducks, and seagulls, set against a stunning landscape.
