Overview
Barrosa Adventure is for those who seek to get lost in a pristine place in Patagonia. This program is adaptable to the needs and interests of each one of our guests and allows us to share with you what everyday life is like on the estancia. We has a total of 18,700 hectares (40,000 acres) to explore, but only uses about 25% of the land for livestock leaving the rest with a minimum impact. The coastal land bordering the fjord, snowcapped mountains, extraordinary peat bog and southern beech forests are home to a large variety of wildlife that we encourage our guests to discover.
This program is flexible with guests being able to mix and match activities during both days depending on their interests. We can also add more days to the stay to create a special program. The estancia offers horseback riding, hiking, short walks or 4x4 explorations. With prior notice we can also organize mountain biking and kayaking.

Day 1
Guests receive a warm welcome at the dock by our staff after a 30-minute boat ride from Puerto Natales. From there we will start our trek up Cerro Ballena or Whale Hill to an impressive viewpoint of the estancia and the surrounding fjord. Afterwards we will choose a nice spot for a picnic lunch and then continue on to discover the Veranada Valley, where our animals graze during the summer months. The excursion ends at a hut in a part of the estancia known as “La Barrosa,” located on the shores of Last Hope Fjord. Guests can warm up by the wood stove just like the pioneers did long ago and admire the view of the majestic mountains. After settling down there is some free time in the afternoon to explore nearby Misery Bay, fish in the fjord or just wander around the surrounding area.
Day 2
We start the day off right with a filling breakfast and continue on with our adventure diving straight into the lives of the Kawesqar, the native nomadic tribe of canoe people who once inhabited the Patagonian fjords. We visit archeological sites such as the Children’s Cave, a lithic workshop where remnants of tools have been discovered and a conchal, one of their nomadic dwellings.
Finally, we will arrive to the estancia for a traditional lamb barbeque (asado al palo), a demonstration of the work of our sheepdogs and the shearing of a sheep before taking the boat back to Puerto Natales.
